We are happy to announce the Call for a 5-day residential workshop on ‘Forests, Community Stewardship and Payment for Ecosystem Services Markets’.

Communities have long stewarded their forests and commons, yet their practices are often overshadowed by globally-driven solutions. PES market investments tend to favour standardized Nature-based Solutions, often disregarding local contexts. In India, the ambiguity around carbon rights tied to land rights can alienate communities from their traditional lands, highlighting the critical role of the Forest Rights Act (FRA).

The demand side of the community-market dynamic is well-organized and strong, but communities themselves often lack the awareness and information needed to engage effectively. To address this, Landstack, in collaboration with the Foundation for Ecological Security and HIPA, is hosting a residential workshop from September 28 to October 2, 2024, at the HP Institute of Public Administration, Dhalli, Shimla.

The workshop will focus on key topics such as community stewardship, the FRA, and PES markets. With expert-led, contextualised pedagogy, peer-learning opportunities, and field visits, this workshop offers a comprehensive experience to deepen your understanding and contribute to equitable forest management.
